Ongoing Mysore Classes - BALI

Heather and I teach the traditional practice of Ashtanga Yoga as taught by our beloved "guruji" Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, who recently left his body.   He spent his entire life teaching in Mysore, India (hence the name 'Mysore style' ). Whether you are a beginner or advanced practitioner of Ashtanga Yoga,  you will benefit from the combined 50 year practice and teaching experience of Heather and myself in our Mysore classes.  We work one-on-one with each student.   You will benefit from our direct personal transmission of this practice. This will empower you to unleash your own inner Guru.    We facilitate the deepening of your personal practice by teaching the principles of Ashtanga Yoga, Ayurveda, and Tantra, step-by-step. Having the two of us in the room  allows you to receive full attention and detail to your personal practice.   In addition, we'll only allow 30 people maximum in the room at one time.

The Intensives we offer in Bali are meant to support your daily living as well as your practice. In our course we teach not only the physical aspects of posture, breathing, meditation, etc., but also have lively discussions on the theory and practical aspects of Ashtanga Yoga, Ayurveda and Tantra...in a fun, inspiring, and informative way. This facilitates your own personal exploration and awakening in your everyday life and living.   Please see below for further details regarding  upcoming Intensives.

All of you are welcome to our Center.  We'll meet you where you're at--no need to have any prior experience; genuine and sincere students are all we're looking for!

Things To Do in Bali

While you are here studying with us there will be a multitude of opportunities for you, friends, and family to enjoy! For those of you with kids, Bali is very family-friendly. There is plenty to do, even for those members who aren't into yoga.

Ubud is an amazing area with great food, activities, spas, outdoor sports, and cultural performances...as well as:

  • Massage/Body work from $5.00 an hour
  • Spas for all budgets

  • Plus the beach is only 45 minutes away...for world class surfing, and exceptional scuba diving and snorkeling or just plain lounging around

We are in Bali in what is considered the "Rainy Season", December 2009 through April 2010, but this should not put anyone off!  The weather is incredible at this time and there are much less tourists. There is a beautiful range of sunny hot days to cool and breezy ones, with  occassional showers that keep beautiful Ubud Fresh and a Sea of Green!  By the way, Ubud means "medicine or healing."

And if you can't make it to Bali, you have to come to Hawaii!

Planning Your Trip

Accommodations

It's very easy to find accommodation in Ubud near us, it is abundant! There are many places available for all budgets. Walking to the shala is very easy from Ubud town as well.  Check out www.tripadvisor.com or get yourself a Lonely Planet or a Rough Guide and look up places for yourself.   Once you're there for a few days, you can really get a better picture of what's available and you can walk around and look at various places.

Here are a few we recommend:

In Nyuh Kuning:
$35.00 US a night: Garden View, Puri Arsi, Swasti Cottages
$75.00 US a night : Villa Sonia, Alam Shanti (with spa)

Also in Nyuh Kuning: Raka Raka Villa, directly next to the shala, 2 bungalows available for short term, $50/55.00 per night (for 1 or 2 week stay only). For info about staying at Raka Raka contact us directly.

For more budget accommodation, the best location is Monkey Forest Road. There are many places available for $10-12.00 a night.

Please keep in mind hotels are happy to make discounts for people that stay 1 month or more. If you are someone who is staying long term you also have the option of looking for houses to rent once you've landed in Ubud. It is easiest to do this once you are here so that you can see what you are renting and make deals accordingly.  Also you can contact Eddie who works for us in Ubud:  eddienyoman@yahoo.com

Transportation

Transportation from the airport is quite easy, no reservation is needed. You can get a cab from the airport to Ubud for about $20.00 (200,000 rp). It is a fixed rate available at the counter as soon as you exit the airport.

If you want to schedule a pickup directly to your hotel, you can do that by contacting the hotel (some offer free pick up) or you can email Eddie for this as well: eddienyoman@yahoo.com.

Bali Visa

Depending on your country you will be given automatically a 30 day visa for $25.00 at the airport on arrival. Some countries, like Singapore, don't need a visa at all. It is best to check where your country is at with this. more visa details »
